- learn different functions of punctuation marks and use them appropriately in their writing.
[5 minutes] Warm-up:
Introduction to Punctuation 2:00-2:05
Look to “Punctuation Matters” handout. Discuss how each letter presents
different message. Can you identify the difference?

[5 minutes] Punctutaion Grouping 2:15-2:20
I will be distributing paper that indicates the color of your group.
After you are placed into your group, you can opend the PUNCTUATION PPT and follow along as I explain the directions.

You will ALL need to study all the explanations and examples THOROUGHLY
so that each one of the group members can teach them to their other classmates. Ask you questions if you are not sure
about something. Every single member of the group should become an expert on
their set of punctuation marks.
[20 minutes] Group Preperation 2:20-2:40
Work together to understand the context of your punctuation marks.
Decide as a group how you will present to the class. You can all talk or elect
one or two speakers. You do not need to include everything from the slides. You
can decide what is the most important information from your topic and present
it in any way that you like. Consider your audience and what they need.
[30 minutes] Jigsaw or Presentations 2:40-3:10
For this part of class, you will either "jigsaw" into new groups to teach your classmates what you know about your puntuation marks or you will present as a group to the class. We might vote as a class to decide which to do.
[10 minutes] Final Quiz 3:10-3:20
Time permitting, we can take the final quiz. If time is short, we will go over the answers to the diagnostic quiz.
