Part I: Catch Up  (15-20 min)
Address the following in class regarding the past homework assignment:

1) The meaning of analysis for the last assignment 

2) The importance and function of attributive language in a summary

3) The  importance and function of BOTH an in-text citation and a corresponding full citation in a bibliography
4) Uploading the original research articles to Safe Assign
Analysis of Student Writing

Part II: Research Question + Library Day (5-10 min)
For your last assignment you are to propose your own topic and write an argumentative paper based on that. If for some reason you feel that argumentation is not an applicable writing skill for your field, please talk to me and I may make adjustments. In general, most forms of published writing make some form of argumentation or evaluation within the text. 

You must get your research topic APPROVED by me. click on RESEARCH TOPIC PROPOSALS and follow along as I explain this google doc.

Part III: Introduce Annotated Bibliography (15 min)

Open up or follow along on the big screen to the ANNOTATED BIBLIOGRAPHY PPT, which outlines the purpose and components of an Annotated Bibliography.

Part IV: Evaluating Annotated Bibliography entries (20-25 min)

The PPT ends with 3 samples. You can work individually or in pairs to analyze the information in each entry (these are also on the ANNOTATED BIBLIOGRAPHY HANDOUT).  Be critical, specifically in the explanation of relevancy and analysis of reliability sections. Also, identify any missing components, and consider how each entry could be improved.

If you do not know which citation style you use, use APA. Reference on citing journals in APA.

Part V: Begin Drafting Annotations (15-20 min)
For this last part of class I will allow time for you to begin your annotation assignment and/or working on your research paper proposals.

Homework:  Before the next class, Find and read 2-3 sources that you can use for your research papers. Upload the articles to your dropbox. You will be using these articles in class as we start creating our own annotated bibliographies.
