4.1 Refining Annotations and Rough Outlining

  • Begin outlining final paper
  • Practice organizing sources/annotations into outline
  • Give/Receive feedback on outlining and source integration
Part I: Final Assignment  (5 min)
Review Directions under unit for for major assignment. Show Students Sample Papers.

Part II: Annotated Bibliographies Peer Review (20 min) 2:05-2:25
I will first put you into one of four groups according to the type of paper you are writing. Move the category that most closely resembles your paper:
  1. Argument
  2. Problem-Solution
  3. Literature Review
  4. IMRD
After you have been placed into a group, I will have you copy and paste your annotations into your student notebooks and work in pairs to provide feedback. You can use the following ANNOTATION RUBRIC to guide your discussions.

Part III: Review Outline Formats  (20 min) 2:25-2:50

Topic:
  • Should Urbana-Champaign supermarkets charge for plastic bags?
You are to work within your group to create an outline for this topic. This topic can work for any of the formats provided, but we will not do a literature review format as we don't have sources. Instead, work in your group to create an outline that is either Argumentative, Problem-Solution, or an IMRD. Be prepared to share your outline in your notebooks. Look to the sample Outlines that were provided in the last class for ideas.
